This technical document contains the principles that have been developed by the Mobile Wireless Internet Forum to be used as a guide for developing next generation mobile and wireless Internet solutions. The Architecture Principles laid down in this document leads to the derivation of a single open mobile wireless Internet architecture that enables seamless integration of mobile telephony and Internet services independent of the access technology, thus meeting the needs of network operators and Internet service providers. These Architecture Principles intend to provide a high-level direction to align the specifications with target architecture for the promotion of interoperability of IP equipment and services.
By writing, publishing and freely distributing mobile/Internet technical reports, MWIF acts as a catalyst to influence technical standards, industry organizations and ultimately worldwide corporations that develop next generation mobile and wireless Internet solutions.
As an international collaborative unit, the membership team that worked on this report is comprised of carriers, developers and ISPs. The benefit of this collaboration is seen in the reference network architecture that is diagramed in this report as well as the supporting documents that follow.
